Recently we spoke with Michael Stockdale, Operations Manager for P&D Rigging, about a job they completed in Parkville, Victoria with their ATF 220G-5 and the HTLJ in full swing.
Could you tell us a little about the job and the application the ATF220G-5 and HTLJ were used for?
The job entailed relocating A/C units from one platform to another for the State Netball and Hockey Centre that is currently undergoing a $64.6m redevelopment.
The all terrain crane was equipped with a 71t counterweight and boom length of 55m – 59.2m. We had a restricted height to work with of 45m because were in line of a flight path. The maximum radius was 66m but we were picking up at 50m.
What advantages did the HTLJ have? Why did you decide on this configuration?
The advantages of using the HTLJ was that we could still maintain height under 45m by having the option to tele at 10.4m then extend to 22.8m. It was a massive bonus because if we couldn’t keep the lift under 45m the job would not have been able to be completed.
How long did preparation and set up take? Can you walk us through the process?
Rigging the crane with a 71t counterweight took only 45 minutes. The set up for the HTLJ took about 30 minutes. Being able to self-rig the HTLJ on the
ATF220G-5 is an added advantage.
Tadano’s HTLJ
The hydraulic telescopic luffing jib (HTLJ) permits uncomplicated lifting loads beyond building edges and into upwardly restricted building structures, which would not be possible with rigid jibs.
This means that the TADANO HTLJ principally works like an additional fully-hydraulic main boom. Another advantage consists in the HTLJ’s permitting assembly within approximately 30 minutes without auxiliary crane – even in a very confined space, provided it is not extended.
